Description

Marie’s Wedding is a Scottish song composed by John Roderick Bannerman (1865-1938) for Mary C. MacNiven in honour of her winning the gold medal at the National Mòd – the largest singing prize in Scottish Gaeldom – in 1934. National Mòd – dem größten Gesangspreis im schottischen Gaeldom – im Jahre 1934 komponiert wurde.

Originally written in Gaelic, the English translation by Sir Hugh Roberton, unlike the original text, makes little reference to the actual occasion of the composition – the singing competition.

What has remained, however, is Marie's appeal and the joyful as well as sentimental mood that this arrangement also tries to evoke in the audience on a convivial evening.
